Hayden Newton, Chief Executive of the East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust, has now commenced his year of office as Chairman of the Association of Air Ambulances. His appointment was confirmed following an election amongst members of the Association.

Hayden takes over from Peter Aldrick, the Association’s first elected Chairman, on 1st December 2009. Simon Gray, Chief Executive of the East Anglian Air Ambulance, was elected Vice-Chairman.

The Association is the representative body for the Air Ambulance Services in the UK, which formally recognises the integral part that Air Ambulances play in medical service provision.

The Association of Air Ambulances has taken the Air Ambulance story on the road with its first ever exhibition at the Emergency Services Show held this year at Stoneleigh Park, near Warwick.

The Emergency Services Show 2009 is the largest independent event of its kind in the UK and brings the emergency services industry together. Over 4,000 visitors attended this show, with the Association of Air Ambulances stand proving to be a popular attraction.

This month’s edition contains news, views and articles about the work of the UK’s Air Ambulances.

The 2009 Annual Conference and AGM of the Association of Air Ambulances in the UK was held at the Abbey Hotel, Redditch on 9th and 10th November.

Around 80 delegates from the various member organisations attended the event with Patron, Sir David Jason, joining the conference on the second day. Sir David offered his continued support and commitment to the Air Ambulances for the work they do.

The Association is the representative body for the Air Ambulance Services in the UK, which formally recognises the integral part that Air Ambulances play in medical service provision.

Peter Aldrick, Chairman of the Association of Air Ambulances in the UK, received, on behalf of the Association, the 2009 UK Equestrian Award for Voluntary Service.

This prestigious award was presented by HRH The Princess Royal at the Animal Health Trust’s 21st United Kingdom Equestrian Awards at the Royal Lancaster Hotel in London. More than 400 people from all walks of the equestrian world attended the event, hosted by HRH The Princess Royal, the AHT’s President.

The award recognised the significant contribution made by the country’s Air Ambulances to the equestrian community in helping those involved in accidents and falls.
